The Hawza Online Further Studies programme is designed to provide a specialised postgraduate-level education in Islamic studies, building on the foundational knowledge acquired through undergraduate-level Hawza and Arabic studies. This one-year online programme, open to graduates from Hawza Online and qualified applicants from other similar programmes, focuses on three crucial areas: Supervised Research, Advanced Principles of Jurisprudence, and Advanced Qur’anic and Hadith Arabic. Students have the flexibility to tailor their learning experience by selecting up to two out of these three elements, enabling them to deepen their knowledge, refine their skills, and prepare for impactful roles in community service or academia.

Programme Objectives

  • ✔️To equip students with the foundational skills necessary for conducting research in Islamic studies, guiding them to produce work that begins to contribute to the academic field and respond to the community’s needs.
  • ✔️To deepen students’ understanding of the Advanced Principles of Jurisprudence, enhancing their knowledge and analytical skills with respect to these principles.
  • ✔️To enhance students’ Arabic language proficiency, focusing on improving their ability to comprehend and engage with Qur’anic and Hadith texts.

Admission Criteria

  • ✔️Completion of at least 220 credits of Hawza Online’s Hawza Studies and Arabic programmes, or equivalent programmes comprising at least three years of study in Hawza/Islamic studies at a recognised hawza, college, or university.
  • ✔️Submission of the  Application Form.
  • ✔️Successful interview demonstrating the applicant’s commitment and potential to benefit from the programme.

Programme Structure

      Description: Under the guidance of experienced mentors, students will initiate two research endeavours, each chosen to engage with key topics in Islamic studies. These projects will emphasise the development of essential research skills to provide insights into significant academic themes and contribute to addressing community needs.

      Outcome: Production of two research papers, approximately 7,000 words each, aimed at reaching publishable quality through further refinement.

 

  • ✔️
    Assessment: Research papers will be assessed based on foundational research skills, originality, scope of research, analytical clarity, and the ability to effectively synthesise scholarly material. Additionally, evaluations will consider the potential to contribute to academic discussions and address community issues.

    Fees: £700 (includes 40 hours of supervision over two semesters). Scholarships are available.

      Description: A comprehensive study of Islamic jurisprudence principles based on al-Sayyid Muḥammad Bāqir al-Ṣadr’s al-Ḥalaqah al-Thāniyah, blending foundational principles with their contemporary applications.
